Bribery

Image
Bribery is such a bad word, but I can't come up with any other way to describe this. School is (FINALLY) out! Which mean brain drain literally starts 72 hrs after the last bell rings for my boys. Oede11 hates to read so I've devised bribery system to make him read even more.  It's called... The Oedekoven Summer Reading Program (whew, that was a tough title to come up with) No Library with a summer 'tote-bag-if-you-read' program will work on my children. They require some serious prizes. At first when I was putting out 'feelers' to see if they were even interested in this incentive program they came up with a list a prizes and here was my reaction. IPad - 'excuse me' IPod Touch - 'tap, tap, tap is this thing on' Bring it down to earth boys... OK. soccer ball batting helmet video game poster of Tim Tebow/ Le Bron Legos Albert Pujols Jersey Baseball hat That's more like it. I printed out blank calendars for th...

There are points in time I wish I could capture with pictures.  They fade before I realize their passing and life has changed in a second.  I've decided to dedicate every Friday post to one, still, quiet moment from where I sit.

Hot Bats

Image
Is this not the perfect 100 degree day's campfire?! We had a little 'exercise the demons' ceremony before the baseball game.  Things were getting UGLY.  Lots of errors and no hot bats (except with this 'campfire') They had to wear thier batting helmets backwards~ouch... ...and dance around the campfire doing a silly dance. Then they had to remove thier gloves from within the campfire without the bats falling over. It worked...we won. Try it sometime.  I think I'm going to do it with my sewing rulers surrounded by several awesome pieces of fabric.  Maybe then I'd be inspired to start a new project!

Project rewind

There are many projects that I've done over the years. The problem is that they are rarely documented or forgotten about.  While crawling through the archives for a different purpose I found this gem. I made rice bags for my friend Jen's three kids. You heat them up in the microwave and put them on sore muscles etc. Hi Jen! She watched my Luke last week on her day off so my husband could go into the office while I was 5 hrs. away working. I'm working on a wall hanging for her.  And no I'm not spoiling the surprise, she asked me to do it... ahem.. 3 years ago. oops! I have no process pics or tutorial but a link to what pattern I think I used .  Looks familiar anyway. Sew, Mama, Sew has wonderful patterns/tutorials and inspirational ideas for us sewer people. Yes, I'm a sewer person. Better than the alternative...whatever that is!

An Artist's House

I had the great pleasure of touring the home of Vicki.  She was the one who choose me to come and teach her students to quilt.  She works in many media and I was astounded how many pieces were displayed with-in her adorable home.  She is prolific! She got this 'Bow Tie' quilt top from an auction.  3 tops for 6 bucks! This is the only one she kept after quilting.  Gave the rest away to friends!  Generous indeed! Why she asked ME to do a hand piecing/quilting class, I'll never know.  She has exquisite craftsmanship shown in this 'Dresden Plate' This is a 'Quilt Around the World'. Everywere it travels the recipient puts another border on. I've never seen a yo-yo constructed like this! She teaches crazy quilting to some advanced art students. A true teachers statement right there!    A shaded 'Log Cabin'.   She says this 'Grandmothers Flower Garden' has over 900 pieces.  It gra...
