one moment

There are points in time I wish I could capture with pictures.  They fade before I realize their passing and life has changed in a second.  I've decided to dedicate every Friday post to one, still, quiet moment from where I sit.

Girl time

We had the pleasure of having my sister, and her two daughters visit us a couple of weeks ago.  They had never met the Luke-enator except through Skype. As a surprise, after I picked them up at the airport, I whisked them away to the Mall of America for their first and only (non baseball) outing during their week long stay. Record setting heat and a government shutdown kinda put a damper on our plans. As I've stated before, I'm not a big MOA fan but for my nieces I absolutely made an exception. I made lunch reservations at the American Girl Store. Pink was in abundance.  Luke was screaming as we entered the store and headed for the escalator.  Just as we were rounding the corner there was a Dad looking very "enthusiastic" either from the amount of estrogen or the money flying out of his wallet.  Anyway, he looks at Luke, hears his screaming and says, "I feel your pain, man." Quilt on a Stick

Image
I was asked to sub for a class in which we make a mini art quilt, 8x9, which is secured to a paint stick. WHY? For all of you who don't know Minnesota's state fair is known for everything on a stick...pork chops, deep fried candy bars, etc. So as an entry into the creative activities category this year's theme for quilt on a stick is Shakespeare at the fair. Here was my sample for the class. Lady MacBeth roaming the halls with her "taper" sleepwalking.  The two things I've noticed after making it were... That is some dress to sleep in... hand painted fabric and quite a voluminous skirt. the other  I should have replaced the candle with a corn dog.

Weekend thanksgivings

Image
We spend a lot of weekends wrapped up in other things. This beautiful summer weekend was one of a handful where the calendar was clear. And with all the hustle of life I had to reflect on how blessed we really are. Steamy homemade french toast Oede11 learning to pick strawberries that we later enjoyed on one of his favorites, Angel Food Cake.  Nothing feels like summer than sheets on the line. Early tomatoes. Black Raspberries that found their way into the garden which I enjoy on oatmeal some mornings. Zurberts!

Today's bounty

Not from my pathetic garden but from my good friend Karen's. You can go to Florida any day. Pesto patrol is coming soon!

Forgot what a mess this makes.
