The last of the projects

Image
I know... It's not like I'll never sew again.  But I do remember how hard it was to even get in a shower those first 6 weeks.  Between keeping up with the house, baby and sports, I don't think I'll get to projects like I used to. So this is it... Nursing Cover Baby Sling (I couldn't figure out how to take a picture of this without a baby in it. You'll just have to wait) Shouldn't be long now!

leaky faucet blotters tutorial

It's one of those things no one really talks about. When I had my first child I didn't know it was a problem until it was.  I'm talking about Leaky Faucets! For both kids I bought a gigantic box of those disposable cotton wipes type of things.  And I didn't even use half of them because my true milk never came in. Don't ask, I don't know why, it just didn't.  I'm hoping for a change this time around. I made some the other day and I thoght I'd show you how truely easy it is. Using my old high school protractor I drew a 4.5 inch circle out of freezer paper. You could use any paper I just had this on hand from another project.  I pinned my circle to a couple of 5" square pieces of muslin cut them out and kept going until I had 70 circles. Putting 5 layers on top of one another I overlock stitched them together getting 7 sets of pads. All in all it took a little over an hour. Now for all you who are asking question while reading this pos...

one moment

Image
There are points in time I wish I could capture with pictures.  They fade before I realize their passing and life has changed in a second. For the next couple months I've decided to dedicate every Friday post to one, still, quiet moment from where I sit.  I hope it inspires you to stop and take heed for just one moment.

"How do you do it all?"

Image
"How do you do it all? This is what people have asked me for years. I'm a fairly task oriented, to-do list kinda girl. I like to plan out each week, have a family meeting about it on Sunday so everyone knows the schedule.  Of course things get switched around but as long as it's changed on the calendar, I'm happy. I also like a tidy house, visual clutter drives me crazy. All the boys, not excluding my hubby, know that when mommy gets a little crabby, it's time to help her pick up. But let's be honest....I can't do it all.  Job, hobby, kids, cooking, cleaning....you know the drill. I'm not Martha! I  did try to emulate her in my early married years. Dessert every night, fresh baked bread and no dishwasher with a baby. Crazy stuff. Now, I'm just like every other mom. Piles of crap to deal with.   Fabric Scraps not put away from projects. And I cook from boxes too. ~~gasp ~~ See... I do live in the real world.

Sports

Image
I'm tired of posting stuff about babies. It's consuming my craft room, my blog and soon my life. So let's take a break. No baby stuff today! How about sports?!? Which, ironically has also taken over my life. Currently, we spend 6 days a week at a practice, game or scrimmage. On the 7th day (No... we do not rest) we go to the gym or down to the "training center" The training center sounds so official doesn't it.  It's actually is the storage room in our basement which we've ,  and I use the term we've loosely here, that we've turned into an 11 year old's sports mecca. Right now we are in the final stages of Basketball so obviously we are getting ready for Baseball season.  With almost 6 feet of snow on the ground it's clear we need to practice this one inside.   I sit on the exercise ball and put balls on the tee for him to hit into the green netting.  I have yet to excercise with the big blue ball. I just use it for sitting ...

Make way for Baby

Image
I hated, loathed, and despised how my gentle household was taken over by baby gear the instant the older boys were born.  Exersaucer, high chair, and swing.  Fisher-Price Farm, Hot Wheels Trick-Tracks and anything that was primary colored that had NO off switch!  As soon as we told my mother-in-law we were expecting she says enthusiastically..."What do you need?" The first thing I said was, "NO LARGE PLASTIC THINGS" True story... But...here were in practical land again. Of course I could walk up and down the stairs to the baby's room every time to feed, change and put it down for a nap. What is the sense in that when I can have my house overrun by plastic things again. Here is our "Man Den".  My cozy western-themed-with-log-saw room off the kitchen. Hence the cookbook rack.   Seriously...how many cookbooks do I have? I deciding to relocate the book rack to the dining room I accessorized with a painted paper screen my Dad brought back f...

Booties

These are a gift...honest! I made them for my friend Karen.  Well, not for Karen, but for her beautiful baby Solomon.  Karen writes about her comedic life as a mother of 5, yes... 5 ,  in her blog Graceful like a Chicken .   And what does a mother of 5, who has all the baby gear on standby from  kids 1-4 want for a baby gift? Diapers and wipes, of course . What do I choose to make for her?  Rooster shoes! Get it... Rooster...Chicken...Boy Baby.... ~I need a different hobby, don't I?!~
