My Finds

Image
I had some time to kill before an OB appt last week so I waddled over to the closest thrift store. Among the plastic lanyard and dried out stamp pads there were two boxes of patterns.  I chose 6 well loved patterns. .39 cents each! One of which, ironically, is now almost half the price of it's original .60 cents!  Here are three I plan to use very shortly, well I hope to use them shortly.  I've always wanted a moo-moo but this one required 4 yds of fabric...ouch and holy voluminous batman! The gender neutral PJ's are cute.  And just in case I have a little girl, the shirt top will come in handy and the pants will suit no mater what pops out of me.  I must be full on nesting. I just wish the toilet and gun cabinet were out of the baby's room soon. Although, they could come in handy though. Just Kidding!

Valentine Pails, again

Image
I did Valentine Pails in 2008 and I thought I'd try to sell them again.  But not through my Etsy Shop. I choose the Textile Center as my venue or I guess I should say they, CarolFaye, choose me.  They had a "table of love" I thought I could contribute to. Here are this years pails...

Yes...I'm nesting

I can't tell you the last time I made a traditional pieced quilt for pleasure. Maybe 2008.  Last Friday I woke up and "needed" to make a quilt.  I know most die hard quilters get this feeling often but I sure haven't for a while. So Friday I pieced this together from an old pattern I had lying around from Terry Atkinson called Yellow Brick Road . It's made by strip piecing fat quarter slices together.  I had neither fat quarters or strips but I made it work anyway from stuff I had lying around.  I didn't buy a thing, not even batting but technically, as my husband would have said,"sunk costs was the price of supplies". Anyway, I didn't go anywhere and made my newest addition a quilt.  Which turned out larger than I pictured in my mind, 48" x 57". It's gender neutral but I was worried it would look like a Christmas Quilt with the red and green.  But with the Carousal animals it seems to squash that idea.  I thought I wouldn...

The Spoils of War

I've been reading a blog, Life as Mom , for a year now and have always wanted to try her freezer cooking techniques . In the past, I've sporatically made a double batch of whatever I was cooking and froze the other half of a casserole for use on another night, but this project is a modest undertaking for a woman in my condition. Picking 6 of our families favorite dinners I consulted the recipes and made a list of all the ingredients and quantities needed.  I was slightly discussed when I tallied 12 pounds of beef total, but that yeilds oh so much in the end. Armed with my recipes. I went to work! Browning meat in 2 pound batches and putting them in the stock pot, the largest vessel I own. I worked on assembling the meals while browning the next batch so there was no down time. In only 4 hours I made all this! While the kids were home! They asked, "Why is the counter covered in food?"  2 taco kits, 2 pizza casserole, 1 lasagna, 2 sloppy joe kits, 4 turkey nood...

Too much!

Snow that is. Just finished helping Papa Bear shovel the 19 inches of snow and ice off the roof. Great exercise using the roof rake. We won't be able to get out the deck door for a while.
